The Revolution in Red, backdrop of The Russian Trilogy

In March 1917 against the background of WWI, Russia, fighting on the side of the Allies, exploded into revolution, toppling the Tsarist government. Tsar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate his throne and was imprisoned with his family in Siberia. In October of that year, Lenin and his Bolsheviks wrested power from the temporary Provisional Government. Fierce resistance to the new Bolshevik regime led the country into a bloody civil war between the Reds, the Bolsheviks, and the Whites, the Tsarists and others who opposed them.
